Canadell is elected by majority president of the Chamber of Commerce

The candidate of Eines de Pais to the presidency of the Barcelona Chamber of Commerce, the independence businessman Joan Canadell, has obtained the support of 36 of the 60 members of the plenary to take charge of the institution for the next two years

The independence entrepreneur Joan Canadell, the only candidate for the presidency of the Barcelona Chamber of Commerce, has been elected the new president of the Barcelona institution by 36 of the 60 members, taking into account that in the vote this morning only 54 were present vowels. There have been six members of the 60 who have not taken possession today and the formalized votes there has been none void but 18 blank votes.

Canadell has opened the session of the constitution of the governing bodies of the institution asking for the vote of the 60 members of the governing body, with the commitment to ensure to maximize the development of the Catalan economy and business as an indispensable tool for achieving an independent Catalan state. “I understand that the central axis of the proposal of Eines de País to develop to the maximum the economy and the Catalan company is an objective that we share the 60 vowels”, said Canadell when defending his candidacy for the presidency of the Cambra.

In a plea to the right to self-determination of the Catalan people, Canadell has asked large companies to respect “this dream” and the Government – taking advantage of the presence of the Consellera de Empresa, Àngels Chacon, has asked for dialogue with the State and unit to the independence forces. Canadell, a businessman very close to Carles Puigdemont, has finished his speech with a souvenir for political prisoners and members of the Government who are outside of Catalonia, for whom he has asked for “the return home.”

The founding businessman of the Petrolis Independents company and promoter of Center Català de Negocis has assured that “we will defend the small and medium-sized company to protect it because it is the most unprotected” and, in an attempt to take the votes of the large corporations that occupy 14 Of the 60 Plenary Voices, Canadell said that “we do not leave aside the big company, we will also work for it because it is the engine of development of SMEs.”

In this sense, he has insisted that with his project, the Cambra will be “the Cambra de todos” and has aimed at its democratization and making it more inclusive. “We see it possible to include the different sensitivities and work as a single team,” Canadell insisted at the beginning of the plenary session that will proceed to the vote of the members of its executive committee, including its new president.

After voting, the executive committee, the highest governing body of the entity, has been formalized by Mònica Roca (IsardSAT), as first vice president, who is also expected to release Canadell in the presidency two years after the mandate; Pere Barrios (Recam Laser), as second vice president; Roser Xalabarder (Nubur XXI), as third vice president; and Jordi Pomarol (Implica2 Consulting y Servicios, SL), as treasurer. All have also obtained 36 of the 54 votes, with the exception of Pomerol with 35 supports. The members of the Eines de País candidacy Antoni Fitó, Xavier Sunyer, Jesús Serra, Montserrat Soler, Elisabet Camprubí will also be members of the committee.

APPEAL AGAINST ELECTORAL RESULTS

Before the start of the plenary session, the former candidates to preside over the Barcelona Chamber Carles Tusquets and Ramon Masià have asked for the suspension of the plenary session in the Barcelona Chamber on Monday, after they and 20 others filed an appeal before the Department of Enterprise of the Generalitat and asked to suspend the results of the elections as a precautionary measure.

In a statement from the former candidates, they have explained that a notary has appeared in the plenary to require the secretary of the chamber to cease the inauguration of the candidates elected to the contested voices until there is a firm administrative or judicial resolution to resolve it, and declare the impossibility of constituting and functioning validly the new board out of the past electoral process, “for not attending the quorums of constitution, operation and making agreements” established by law.

The financier Carlos Tusquets, present at the celebration of the plenary session since he was elected as one of his members in the last elections, has asked the table to take minutes that at no time during the session the attendees have been informed that he is for elucidating the appeal that he and the lawyer Ramon Masià have presented to challenge the outcome of the elections.

Canadell is part of the Eines de País candidacy, promoted by the ANC and was the winner of the Barcelona Chamber elections, obtaining 31 of the 40 chairs in liza.

Eines de País decided that Canadell was president of the corporation during the first two years of the mandate when it will be replaced by the entrepreneur Mònica Roca, who will occupy the position of first vice president in the first part of the legislature.

Canadell and Roca will relieve Miquel Valls as president of the Chamber for the past 17 years, who asked the new presidency at his farewell to ensure that the corporation continues to defend the general interest.
