Charlotte Osei was a danger to the EC and Ghana – Ayariga

Hassan Ayariga

The Supreme Leader of the All People’s Congress (APC), Dr Hassan Ayariga has hailed President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo for sacking the Chairperson of the Electoral Commission (EC), Madam Charlotte Osei and her two Deputies, Mr. Amadu Sulley and Ms. Georgina Opoku Amankwah.

In a statement copied to, the former People’s National Convention (PNC) flagbearer indicates that the findings of the committee lend credence to his long stance that Madam Osei was not cut for the job.

“On the substantive issue of the removal of the Madam Charlotte Osei, the APC wish to commend the Chief Justice and her committee for confirming what we have always said about Madam Charlotte Osei. We wish to commend the President for acting boldly on this matter”

According to him, she has consistently exhibited arrogance and abuses of office which put the EC and Ghana in danger prior to her sack.

“The arrogance and abuse of office by Madam Charlotte Osei left no one in doubt that she was a danger to the EC and the country. In the 2016 election, the hostility she showed towards the APC and its leader and her utterances gave her out as an unfair commissioner”, he added

On plans to join the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) for her reinstatement, he said  “I wish to disassociate myself and the APC from the reckless demonstration the NDC is scheduled to embark tomorrow. The demonstration is against the public order act, as the police has not been duly notified, the APC and myself cannot be part of the process. I urged the people of Ghana to embrace this decision and see it as an opportunity to reform the EC”
