Some people may think, what do core values have to do with business or a career?
Award-winning coach Amy Sinton’s told us why she thinks that understanding your core values is important in terms of your career and personal life also.
“Well, core values are actually connected to people’s business and careers in a very meaningful manner. Understanding what they are, is one of the fundamental reasons why some people and organizations are successful, and others are not. When people are aware of what their core values are for them, then they in turn can then work more effectively, and focus on exactly those things, rather than wasting time and money on things that are not as significant to them in reality. They can make an A-line in terms of creating their path to success and achieving their goals. For this, they must make it a key principal to define what those values are.
Coaching can support people in figuring out what their core values are for themselves in their personal lives and their work, as well as in terms of what an organization’s main values are. This is very important because this then leads to the choice of direction in terms of pursuing goals, as well as the focus, and where to spend their time, energy & finances.
Values define what is important to people. They are linked to people’s judgment and decision-making. When someone appreciates something or finds something beneficial and valuable in their life or career, then they will often focus most of their efforts on this. It is very important to be aware of what your values are in order to make clear, conscious, and effective choices.
Understanding not only your own personal core values are important, or those of your organization. Also acknowledging what those are for your employees, clients, customers, and even competitors can make you either effective as a business or not.
Values motivate people to behave a certain way in their work and personal lives. They are directly linked to people’s actions, preferences, and beliefs. When a person gains clarity in this aspect of understanding their core values, they subsequently tend to have an increase in self-esteem. This also helps with figuring out one’s identity but is not synonymous to it. Knowing what your values are can lead to improvement in some relationships, and better choices in whom people want to have relationships with and why. This can mean both in terms of whom they work with, do business with, & in terms of personal relationships. There are many examples in life that prove, that understanding and being aware of your personal values is one of the main elements that people should work on before starting to achieve their goals. Especially so that they don’t figure out later down the road that their efforts are not leading to what they really think is important for them. This can often involve a lot of loss in terms of time, efforts, and money.
In order to raise awareness, people can reach out to a coach, in order to work together to figure out what these core values are. Defining your own and your organization’s core values can be a complete game changer, as well as figuring out the link between the two and if they are aligned with each other. Learning what your personal values are during a thought-provoking session and raising awareness can positively impact your entire business strategy, as well as daily ease in terms of making decisions.”
As you can see, understanding what your core values are, is directly linked to the accomplishment of personal and professional success. When you work towards achieving a greater understanding of what those are, you should in turn achieve greater fulfillment, knowing that what you are working on, will probably lead you to exactly where you want to be. And that your time and efforts are not wasted.
