DC’s Stargirl Villians: Sportsmaster and Tigress

DC's Stargirl Villians: Sportsmaster and Tigress

The Stargirl series is the vision of executive producer Geoff Johns and is a live-action version of the original comic book. Like the comic, there are plenty of over-the-top villains to keep you guessing. In season one, two villains that usually appear together are Sportsmaster and Tigress. Here is a rundown on them both.

Sportsmaster (AKA Larry Crock)

Sportsman is known by a few names, including:

When he is busy being a villain, he is known only as Sportsmaster.

Appearance

Sportsmaster’s alter-ego is a middle-aged man who wears activewear like tracksuits and t-shirts with the Blue Valley Highschool’s logo. When he is Sportsmaster, he wears an ominous goalie mask (hence the Friday the 13th reference) and a hockey player’s pads.

Abilities

Aside from the fact that he is in great physical shape, he is proficient in martial arts. He is also a skilled marksman. The show indicates that he is super strong, although it is unclear why or how he got the ability.

Weapons

Like his moniker, he uses various types of sports-related weapons. His favorites are a hockey stick and puck, a baseball bat and balls and a badminton shuttlecock. The shuttlecock is a smoke bomb in disguise.

Personality

He is a typical sportsman/jock. He thrives on pep talks and athletics. He is a fanatic who often murders past coaches and hurts those who disagree with him. He is also a parent who will lie about his daughter’s sports prowess and will gladly kill anyone who disagrees.

Tigress (AKA Paula Brooks)

Tigress is a hunter, a persona that matches many of her other attributes. She is a good match for Sportsmaster as she is the coach at Blue Valley High.

Appearance

As Paula Brooks, she is a middle-aged female that has brown hair and brown eyes. She wears a coach’s attire while working at Blue Valley High and longer dresses when dressing up.

As Tigress, she wears her signature garb. This consists of a paw-shaped mask and a bodysuit.

Abilities

She has cat-like grace, balance and agility. She is a master of martial arts and an expert with the crossbow.

Weapons

Unlike her counterpart, Tigress sticks to the same weapon. She favors the crossbow and carries a mini-crossbow when she is range fighting but uses martial arts training while in hand-to-hand combat.

Personality

Like Sportsmaster, she also has an extreme personality. She is a sportsperson and likes to be in the action. She is also a fanatic and will literally murder the competition and sometimes her own teammates if she sees fit. She has a daughter that she brags about a lot and has a strong bond with her husband. She is very impatient and quickly resorts to violence when she doesn’t get her way. Her Tigress persona is not much different than her alter-ego.

These two villains are the perfect match for each other, and they share similar traits whether they are acting as part of the Injustice Society of America or playing sports. At the end of season one, both of them are alive and well.
