Hello Valentine: Colour of Love through Cupid’s Eyes

Of all the symbols of Valentine, Cupid is the most popular and widely accepted icon. The arrows signify desires and emotions of love, and Cupid aims those arrows at humans, causing them to fall head over heels in love. Cupid has always played a role in the romantic celebrations of love and lovers. According to history, he was the son of Aphrodite – goddess of love and beauty.

What would the world be without Cupid, the god of romance? It is believed that if Cupid’s arrow hits you, you will fall powerlessly in love with the person you set your eyes on.. Affection is oftentimes envisioned as a heart pierced with two of Cupid’s shafts.

In your mind’s eye, put two shapes of original human hearts together. What did you get? The whole two hearts when placed side by side makes one shape that is generally referred as the ‘lovey’ heart in modern times – an indication of fused Love.

The color red became a significant symbol when Roman Emperor Claudius II executed two men — both named Valentine — on Feb. 14 of different years in the yesteryears. Their death was with the celebration of St. Valentine’s Day till date. Cupid (Roman ‘god’ of Love) is depicted as a blindfolded smiling child armed with a bow meant to inspire romantic love, when Cupid draws the bow and shoots the arrow, whoever is hit is said to be lovestruck.

The story of Cupid is in itself a love story. The conviction that intimate romance will win is certain as far as Cupid is concerned. So if Cupid shoots an arrow at you, don’t battle it. Simply appreciate it.

This mischievous god flew around shooting shafts that people began to look all starry eyed at. History says that the divine beings looked down on him, grinning from ear to ear- how hilarious?

Do you want to experience the romantic power of Cupid this Valentine or are you just going to simply play Cupid?

You will only avoid being hit if you are not interested in “Love” but it may interest you to know that you cannot decide the direction Cupid shoots his arrows and he has enough in his sheath.
